Job Description and Activities- EMTs assist people of all ages who are in life-threatening situations. They must quickly assess their condition and communicate the information to the hospital ER staff. They use cardiopulmonary resuscitation to try to revive people if they have stopped breathing. They control bleeding. They also treat people who are in shock due to traumatic injuries. They may deliver babies.

Career Pathway- Formal training and certification are received to become an EMT or paramedic. All 50 states have a certification procedure.Applicants for municipal firefighting jobs generally must pass a written exam; tests of strength, physical stamina, coordination, and agility; and a medical examination that includes drug screening. Certification or degrees related to this pathway include: First Responder EMT-Basic EMT-Intermediate EMT-Paramedic Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Fire Engineering or Fire Science Master's Degree in Public Administration.
Salary Range- $20,440 to $56,760
